San Antonio Spurs crush the Cleveland Cavaliers 125 – 90; Win eighth straight - NBA Recap
On Tuesday night at the Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland, OH, Western Conference powerhouses San Antonio Spurs put on a true veteran display as they crushed the Cleveland Cavaliers 125-90.
Scoring their highest points in a game since January 4th last year, the Spurs gave a schooling lesson to the Cavs, who have had a rather mediocre season so far. This was Cleveland’s third largest defeat at home since
entering the National Basketball Association in 1970-71.
Spurs made the most of the Cavaliers being undermanned on the night with Daniel Gibson and Anderson Varejao both out with injury.
This was a drubbing in Cleveland`s face, as the Spurs who have had a spectacular season so far, tyrannized their Eastern Conference counterparts throughout the game. San Antonio grabbed a staggering 46 rebounds as compared to Cleveland`s
27. They had almost the double of Cleveland’s point in paint 30-58 and crushed the Cavs on fast break points 18-0.
The game was a contest till just after the midway point in the first quarter when the scores were all tied up 16 each, 4:36 remaining in the period. From that point on Spurs went on a 16-2 run to close the opening quarter at a
32-18 advantage, never to be troubled again by the Cavs in the entire game.
As dominant as the Spurs looked in the first quarter, the second quarter was in a similar order as the Spurs went on to extend their advantage to 19 points at the halfway stage, 60-41.
The second half followed the same script with the Spurs dominating their opponents in every aspect of the game. During the game, San Antonio did not require much from their star players as the supporting cast did a very satisfying
job with the setting they were given.
In a feat of total domination, the Spurs led by as much as 37 points at one point during the game, in which stars like Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker were only required to play less than half of the game.
Reserve guard Patrick Mills, who came off the bench scored 20 points (career high), Danny Green had 19 points with 16 of them coming in the first half, which included 4 three pointers. Tony Parker also contributed with 19 points
and 5 assists to his name while Duncan and Ginobili had 7 each.
Antawn Jamison led the Cavaliers with 15 points, Anthony Parker had 10 and rookie point guard Kyrie Irving contributed 13 points and 5 assists.
The win has extended Spurs winning streak to eight and they have shown that they are still a championship calibre team. Anyone who has any doubts needs to reconsider their opinions.
