San Antonio Spurs defeat Houston Rockets in overtime thriller – NBA Recap
The San Antonio Spurs surged in overtime to defeat the Houston Rockets in a hard fought game at the AT&T Center. The Spurs made their experience count by putting away a spirited Houston team that caused them more than a few problems in the match that ended
101 – 95.
Point guard Tony Parker shone the brightest on the night for San Antonio. The veteran produced an all round display, scoring 28 points, the game high, while also recording 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Tim Duncan was impressive as well; notching up a double-double
with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kawhi Leonard was the last Spurs player in double figures with 11 points while he also had 8 boards.
Kyle Lowry was terrific for the Rockets with 22 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Kevin Martin did well for his 18 points and Luis Scola had 20 on the night. Patrick Patterson was the last Houston player in double figures with 10 points.
The game was off to an even start and the sides were well matched in the early going. The Rockets started to pull away soon after though but San Antonio never fell behind too much as the first quarter progressed. When they headed into the second period,
the Rockets were leading at 27 – 23.
The following quarter was an even affair as well. Neither side could get a definite advantage. They poked and prodded without making many inroads and headed into the break with Houston slightly ahead 50 – 47.
A 6 – 2 run early after the interval gave San Antonio the lead at 57 – 56. It changed hands a few times before the third quarter came to an end, but when it did the Spurs found themselves ahead at 72 – 68.
Houston battled back with a 7 – 0 burst early in the 4th quarter. San Antonio managed to gain a 5 point lead with just 1:22 left on the c**k but Houston made a furious charge and levelled scores at 90 apiece. With just 5 seconds remaining, the
Spurs failed to make the game winning shot, taking the match into overtime.
San Antonio didn’t have to face too much resistance in overtime and they finished the game on a 10 – 3 run, clinching the 101 – 95 win.
