San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili out for two months - NBA Update
Four-time NBA champions, San Antonio Spurs faced a major setback, after their veteran guard, Manu Ginobili, who hurt his left hand in a game against Minnesota Timberwolves, was ruled out from the game for at least two months.
According to medical reports, Ginobili has dislocated his bone that connects his pinky from rest of the hand and will be undergoing a surgery in a few days time.
“Six to eight weeks is the most common thing that's been thrown around, so I assume that's what it is unless the docs figure out differently tomorrow," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said”
Manu himself is devastated at the prospect of missing out the action for two months, especially with the season being so short and room for mistakes ever that little. Dishing out the particulars of his surgery to his fans via twitter,
Manu added, he will have a steel plate inserted in his shooting hand that will remain there until the fractured bone is re-united.
This if not the first injury episode Manu has had in the recent times and in each of the last three season, Manu has suffered a major injury.
He missed the complete post season three years back due to sprained ankle and just last year, he injured his elbow on the first day of playoffs, which affected his performance and also led team to a shocking loss at the hands of
Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of playoffs.
With Ginobili being an essential cog of the big three at the Spurs - Tim Duncan and Tony Parker being the other two – the injury could have major consequences on their standing in the league this season and on a charge towards
what many believe could be their last title under the Tim Duncan era.
In short, this is a nightmare for Spurs, as Ginobili has been one of their best players over last few years. He was averaging around 18 points per game before the injury this season and now with him out, Spurs face a steep task
of finding an alternate that can match his class.
