San Antonio Spurs in comfortable 83 – 73 win over the Memphis Grizzlies – NBA Recap
The San Antonio Spurs used all their experience and nous to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies 83 – 73 in a one-sided affair. The Spurs were playing at their opponent’s arena, the FedExForum in Memphis, but that didn’t stop them from playing some fundamentally
sound basketball to down the Grizzlies.
San Antonio once again produced an efficient team performance with 5 players in double figures for scoring. Kawhi Leonard had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Bonner came off the bench to score a team high 15 points.
The veterans also made good contributions for San Antonio. Tim Duncan had 14 points, Richard Jefferson scored 13 and Tony Parker pulled the strings, as evidenced by his 12 assists.
On the other hand, Memphis struggled to get any rhythm at all. Star forward Rudy g*y was abysmal on the night as he failed to register a field goal and only scored a single point in over 30 minutes on the court.
Mike Conley saved his team some face with 15 points while O.J. Mayo came off the bench for the game high 17.
The first quarter didn’t give many indications of how the game was going to progress. In fact the scores were very close early on as the teams went toe to toe and were separated by just one point at the half way mark. By the end of the period though, Spurs
had managed to open up a 5 point gap; the score 24 – 19 to San Antonio.
The home crowd was aching for Memphis to make a come out fighting in the next period, but it didn’t happen. The big guns for the Grizzlies were misfiring and the Spurs took advantage by slowly increasing their lead. At halftime the away side were ahead by
double digits, 45 – 35.
Things only got worse for the Grizzlies after the break. The Spurs went for the jugular in the third period and Memphis looked powerless to resist. The Grizzlies tried to stave off disaster but their offense simply wouldn’t get going. San Antonio outscored
them 25 – 15 and went into the final period with a 20 points advantage.
That was just a formality really and the Spurs took their foot of the gas to allow Memphis regain some pride. The Grizzlies thus chipped away at the deficit until the clock ran out, final score 83 – 73.
