San Antonio Spurs interested in Bowie State's centre Travis Hyman - NBA Update

Travis Hyman, who currently plays for Bowie State, is attracting some interest from NBA teams this offseason, particularly from the San Antonio Spurs. The player has caught the eye
in the summer league as he showcases his talents alongside top college players as well as some NBA stars.
NBA players along whom Hyman has played, and impressed, this summer include Greg Monroe of the Detroit Pistons, Jeff Green of the Boston Celtics and Kevin Durant, two time NBA scoring
champion, of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Co-incidentally the Thunder are one of the teams interested in the centre but it is believed that San Antonio are in pole position. Travis is an athletic big guy, stands 7 feet tall
and weighs 245 lbs. The player can hang in the paint but also has a good handle and can, on occasion, pull up for long range jumpers.
He averaged a solid 15.2 points per game for Bowie State last season as well as 9.5 rebounds and an eye raising 4.2 blocks per game. The player has welcomed the interest in his services
and said he would be grateful for an opportunity in the NBA,
“I just want to play against a higher level to make me better,”
Hyman played for Team Takeover in the regular season, helping them to a 6-2 record that was enough to clinch the division title. Team Takeover Coach Butch Hazel was full of praise
for the player and said there is definitely some promise in the centre,
“A lot of people are really surprised that [Hyman] plays at Bowie State but he’s a force, he’s going to surprise some people on the national level I think.”
The player isn’t exactly the hottest thing out there in the eyes of NBA teams right now but more and more scouts are turning up to watch him play. The San Antonio Spurs certainly
appear to be a team that could make a move as soon as next season for the big guy.
The Spurs are at the end of a cycle currently, a very successful one too, and are looking to rebuild a team that can perform well in the post Tim Duncan era. Travis can bring some
youth to the side whose three cornerstones, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker, are all getting old very quickly. He will, if picked up by the Spurs, bring some much needed size to roster which many believe puts too much pressure on the aging Duncan.
Travis certainly seems to have some potential and the Spurs are renowned for giving unknown players a chance to play in the NBA, just ask Manu Ginobili. This deal could happen.
