San Antonio Spurs looking to trade Tony Parker – NBA Update
In a shocking development, reports have surfaced that the San Antonio Spurs are actively looking to trade their long time point guard Tony Parker. Apparently, the Spurs want a high draft pick in return for their man.
If true, these rumours could be the start of a sad end for Tony Parker’s time at the San Antonio Spurs. The 29 year old started his NBA career at the San Antonio franchise after coming over from France and has since played for
the team.
In his time, the San Antonio Spurs have won three NBA World Championships with the team featuring Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Parker as its cornerstones.
However with the Draft fast approaching, that trio might be broken, on or before Thursday. The Spurs are believed to already have had talks with the Toronto Raptors and the Sacramento Kings regarding trading Tony Parker for a draft
pick. The Kings hold the seventh overall pick while the Raptors have the fourth spot.
Sacramento are believed to be the frontrunners as the team has been on the market for a quality point guard for quite some time now. They have also held discussions in this regard with the Denver Nuggets, suggesting a trade of
their draft pick and Nuggets guard Raymond Felton.
Parker’s availability would certainly turn the heads of many teams in the league. The player, who turns 30 next season, is one of the best point guards of the last decade. He averaged an impressive 17.5 points per game and 6.6
assists in the regular season. He also led the Spurs in minutes played as they won 61 games before the playoffs.
The San Antonio Spurs are however looking to turn a page beginning next season. The team management knows that rebuilding needs to be done and the Spurs are looking to bring in young blood to boost the side. Sacrificing Parker
is how they have decided to go about it.
Tony Parker did struggle against the Memphis Grizzlies as the San Antonio Spurs got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. He is not getting younger either and is one of the few players in the Spurs side that would represent
value on the trade market.
The final push seems to have come when Tony Parker gave that ill advised interview in his home country. Parker told French journalists that the San Antonio Spurs blew their chance of a last NBA World Championship in the Tim Duncan
era with the loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. He also said that the Spurs would not be serious title contenders next season.
After coming back to the U.S.A Parker tried to play down his comments but now it seems that was too little too late.
