San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker speaks about his future – NBA News
Tony Parker has been under the media spotlight for a while now. The San Antonio Spurs point guard is one of the best in his position in NBA, but his future has been under speculation on two different fronts. Firstly, there is the
question of whether the 29 year old would continue his affiliation with the Spurs, come next season. Also under a shroud is where he could play if the NBA lockout results in a lost season.
During a recent interview, Parker addressed both issues but his answers can be termed inconclusive at best.
Tony has been with San Antonio since he made the move to the NBA from his native France. During his time at the franchise, Parker has become an established NBA super star and helped the team win multiple NBA World Championships.
Parker formed a superb trio with Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili that led Spurs to unprecedented success over the last decade.
However, those two are not in the twilight of their career. Many analysts thought that last season was the final chance for the Spurs to add another Championship ring with the current core of players. When the team bowed out in
the first round of the playoffs, critics jumped on the chance to write them off for next season as well.
Surprisingly, during an interview in France, Parker seemed to suggest that it was indeed the end of an era for San Antonio and the team couldn’t possibly challenge for the NBA title anymore. That has put him in the bad books of
San Antonio fans and management alike, resulting in speculation of the tricky guard being traded before next season.
Tony Parker previously tried to play down the impact of his ill-fated interview and was non-committal over his Spurs future when asked the question.
"With the Spurs, it's hard to know," said Parker. "I am not allowed to talk to them. But in September I will definitely see what is good for my body and take a good decision (on whether to sign with a French team)."
Like many other NBA players, Parker is open to the idea of playing elsewhere if the NBA season is lost as a result of the labour dispute. However where he will play, is a question on many people’s mind. The logical answer seems
France, since Tony owns a team there.
However the point guard knows there is a lot of money to be made elsewhere, like China, and refused to close any doors,
"I don't want to close any doors and my agent has talked a little bit (to a team in China), but it looks like China is not going to happen for any players. We definitely had some talks, just nothing serious."
