San Antonio Spurs seal impressive win over Portland Trail Blazers 99 – 83 – NBA Recap
The San Antonio Spurs are a gritty veteran team that would give anyone a in the NBA a run for their money. The Spurs showed that today with a terrific victory over the formidable Portland Trail Blazers at the AT&T Center.
The Spurs were staring at a deficit early but grew into the game with the passage of time and eventually put on a swashbuckling display that stunned the Trail Blazers and sent the home crowd into frenzy.
Tony Parker was perhaps the engine for San Antonio’s solid performance as he scored a team high 20 points and dished out a game high 9 assists. Starting centre DeJuan Blair raked in a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Tiago Splitter came
off the bench for 14 and Daniel Green had 13 points.
LaMarcus Aldridge, star forward of the Portland Trail Blazers, top scored in the game with 29 points and also grabbed 7 boards. Gerald Wallace had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds while he also dished out 5 assists. Point guard Raymond Felton
was influential with his 13 points and 7 assists while Wesley Matthews scored 12.
The Trail Blazers are in the middle of a good run of form and they started the game with confidence, going up 11 – 6 early. San Antonio cut the lead to just 1 point only to see Portland race away again to increase the deficit at 24 – 16. The first quarter
therefore ended with the away side in the ascendency at 31 – 27.
An early 6 – 0 spurt by the Spurs gave them a 2 point lead and set the tone for a well contested second quarter. After skirmishes throughout the period, San Antonio finished the half ahead at 50 – 47.
Things were gritty after the interval as well. The Trail Blazers used an 8 – 0 spurt to get the lead back from the home side, who responded with a 7 – 0 run to restore their advantage. The quarter ended with the game finely poised at 65 – 65.
The final period however completely belonged to San Antonio as they used all their experience and composure to destroy Portland’s resolve. San Antonio shifted gears and took their game to another level, with the Trail Blazers powerless to resist. Spurs thus
won the quarter 34 – 18 and the game 99 – 83.
