San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker not fussed about missing out on MVP award – NBA Update
Tony Parker has dismissed suggestions that he was disappointed with the outcome of voting for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award for the season of 2011 – 2012. The San Antonio Spurs point guard had been in terrific form throughout the year and Spurs fans
strongly backed him to get the NBA’s prestigious award.
Although Parker wasn’t among the top most contenders for the prize, he was still a worthy nominee and was expected to garner plenty of votes. However when the results came out, it was revealed that Parker came 5th in the standings and received
only four first place votes.
Some quarters therefore suggested that Tony was bitter about the whole matter but the Spurs’ man has rejected such notions. He seemed ignorant of any such feelings and instead declared that he was happy for LeBron James of the Miami Heat, who eventually
won the award.
“Disappointed?” he said. “What do you mean? Meaning I’m happy that LeBron (James) won? Yeah, I’m happy.”
As for himself, Parker revealed that he didn’t really bother too much about individual accolades. The player has had a long and distinguished career with the Spurs, winning multiple NBA World Championships in the past and said that his focus remained the
same; nab another championship ring.
“I don’t care,” he said. “I just want to win another championship.”
James meanwhile has been hailed as a worthy recipient of the NBA’s top individual honour. The Miami Heat forward has been sensational throughout the regular season; showcasing his scoring ability, high basketball IQ and using his strength and speed to devastating
effect. Moreover, LeBron is one of the best defenders in the NBA at present.
His toughest competition did not come from Parker, but from Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant. Durant, who won the NBA’s scoring championship for the third time running this season, had come out earlier to say that James deserved the award more
than him.
Los Angeles Lakers legendary shooting guard Kobe Bryant was also in the running, especially earlier in the season when he was in red hot form. However Kobe slowed down later, perhaps because of some injury setbacks.
