San Antonio Spurs superstar Tony Parker to hold Skills workshop in McAllen High School: NBA News
After committing to play for partially owned French Club Asvel on a mere salary of $1995 per month during the NBA lockout, San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker has added another commitment to his busy schedule.
The three-time NBA Champion is hosting the Tony Parker Skills Clinic to demonstrate basketball techniques and training methods to the aspiring students of the McAllen High School. Tony’s brothers T.J Parker and Pierre Parker have
also joined hands with their brother in running the Skills Clinic, and they are doing it not only in McAllen High School, but in different places around San Antonio.
“We just had our very first (clinic) in San Antonio on Oct. 1. We plan to reach other places in the Valley, as well as Laredo, Austin, or anything around San Antonio. I love to give back whatever I’ve learned from college coaches
and all the new things. I love doing it for the kids. Some of them don’t get to see Tony play, and I know it’s a big Spurs fan city, so we decided to do it in the Valley to give kids the chance to see him.” T.J., who is also a professional basketball player
and started his career playing as a guard at the North-Western University, said while talking to ‘the Monitor’.
T.J. added that Tony will be playing in France till the lockout ends, but will especially dedicate time from his busy schedule, for the clinics. Commenting on the current situation in NBA, T.J was hopeful that the league will get
back to business soon after the cancellation of the first two weeks of games.
The Spurs had an exceptional regular season last time around, but as it drew to an end, fatigue started to take toll on the aged Spurs troika. They struggled to maintain their dominance in the West late into the regular season
and when the playoffs arrived, they were bundled out by the eighth seeded Memphis Grizzlies. This has led many to believe that with age fast catching up, the Spurs are no longer in a position to mount a championship run. In fact, early in the offseason, Tony
had hinted the same, but later retracted from his statement.
T.J. Parker however dismissed the notion that the Spurs are a done deal, and said that with Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili alongside his brother; the Spurs are still the team to beat;
“As long as you have Tony Parker, (Manu) Ginobili and Tim Duncan on the same team, you know they have a shot at winning a title,”
