San Antonio Spurs waive Danny Green, sign Ime Udoka
According to a report from Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the San Antonio Spurs have waived guard/forward Danny Green less than a week after signing him to a contract.
Green, who was taken with the 46th pick overall in last year's draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, was signed last November 17 when rookie James Anderson suffered a foot injury. Green appeared in two games for the Spurs, averaging 3 points and 0.5 rebounds
in 4.5 minutes per game.
Last Saturday, he scored a career-high six points against the Cavaliers. Green played 20 games for the team last season and averaged 2 points and 0.9 rebounds in 5.8 minutes per game.
Green is the latest in a series of waivers from the San Antonio Spurs. In addition to Green, the team has waived Garrett Temple, Bobby Simmons and Alonzo Gee since the start of the season. The Spurs also traded Curtis Jerrells during the off-season.
Udoka returns to Spurs fold
According to a separate report from Spears, Ime Udoka, who played for the Spurs from 2007-2009, will rejoin his old teammates as Green's replacement. The former Portland University standout spent last season with the Sacramento Kings and averaged 3.6
points and 2.8 rebounds in 69 games.
On his Twitter page, Stein wrote, "After Spurs waived Danny Green, bringing back Ime Udoka is next in their 12-1 sights. I'm told Udoka on way to SA and 'likely' to sign soon."
A report from the Charlotte Observer said that Udoka has been signed to an undisclosed contract.
During his two seasons with the Spurs, Udoka averaged 5.1 points and three rebounds while appearing in 140 games. Before playing for the Spurs, Udoka spent time in the D-League. He had stints with the Charleston Lowgators and the Fort Worth Flyers. In
six seasons in the NBA, he has averaged 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds.
