My family and I are thinking about going to San Antonio in December to Seaworld. What is the weather like and is it even worth going to SW that late in the year? What else in there to do that is kid-friendly? thanks in advance!!

  1. San Antonio is amazing! It has so many things you can do as a family.

Sea World (in San Antonio) is fun and it has plenty of rides for kids. And it also has a swim park, but I don't think you are going to want to be swimming during December (if it's even open).

The temperature in San Antonio during the winter isn't anywhere near as cold as it is up north (it doesn't snow), but it does get chilly and I wouldn't suggest going to Sea World at time like that.

But don't decide not to come just because you can't go to Sea World, there are lots of things to do in downtown San Antonio. For instance, the Alamo (of coarse),  The Children's Museum which is only $7 per person, The Central Library, or just walking up and down The River Walk... and many other places and things to do.

    I think

  2. stiffling and halting 70 degrees

ppl break out sweaters and blankets lol jk

cant get in pool cause pool  is closed

but still can see all the shows

  3. The weather is pretty unpredictable here in the winter. It can get icy one moment, then nice and sunny the next day. I've noticed it usually doesn't reach its coldest though until around January, and even then it just depends. One winter in December a few years back it was pretty mild the entire month.

There are lots for kids to do here. SA is a very kid friendly city. Other than Sea World,  there is the Children's Art Museum (http://www.sakids.org/), The Magic Kids Theatre, The Kiddie Park (amusement park for kids), Six Flags, The Zoo, and on and on and on.

Enjoy your trip if you decide to come. SA is a wonderful place!

  4. sure, it wont be freezing in december. but sea world is mainly a swim park and it could be too cold for swimming...if the water park is even still open in december.

san antonio has tons of great things to do for the family, plenty of shopping downtown at rivercenter mall, and theres the alamo and also a pretty cool ripley's believe it or not/wax museam across the street from the alamo. they also have six flags fiesta texas. theres also the nutcracker suite ballet, its awesome. :]

  5. It's average Texas weather-you can never really tell.

one day it will be 85 and the next be snowing(literally...ive seen it)

make sure that the river walk isn't drained, about that time of year they get rid of all the water.  the river walk will have up all their christmas decorations and it will be pretty.

    theres also fiesta texas

  6. San Antonio is a great city, but I personally would opt for another month to go.  As others have said, you never know what the weather is going to be like and it can be a scorcher one day and you can have an ice storm the next.  I think that it's nicer in the spring or fall.

  7. I actually love San Antonio in December.  The weather is very unpredictable so make sure you check it out a few days beforehand so you know what to pack.

Sea World is open in December.  I have a season pass and it's really nice.  the swim area is not open but trust me there is plenty too do.

We have a fabulous zoo and great train ride through the park.  The riverwalk is really beautiful cause it's all lit up.  There's also the Institute of Texas Cultures right below the Tower of the Americas.  It's one of my favorite things.

There's a  new mall called LaCantera and is outside and great to walk around.  If you rent a vehicle you can even go to nearby Fredericksburg which is a great German town with some neat shops and stuff.

I think Fiesta Texas is open as well during the holidays, look at the website and it will tell you.

When doing the riverwalk make sure you do a boat ride and eat some great Mexican Food at La Margarita which is in the Market square.

I love my city, I'm sure you will to

  8. The average high in December is in the mid 60s, and the low are in the 40s.  While Sea World is open this time of year, it is not the optimal time to see the park.  It is best in the Spring or Fall when the weather is best in San Antonio.

It is rare to have snow in San Antonio, usually only once every 10 years or so, and the high in December has never been over 86 degrees and that was on Dec 2nd.

There are many kid friendly activities in the city, including the museums, historic sites, and Six Flags.

They never drain the river during December, in fact it is a central part of the city festivities during the holidays.  It is lit and lined with luminaria during the holidays, and is actually a very nice place to be.

The city can be quite crowded due to the bowl games and other celebrations bring in an increase in tourism during the holidays.  There are also several river parades during the holidays.

Check the CVB website at www.visitsanantonio.com to see what is scheduled during your visit.  This site is frequently updated, and may have more updates between now and December.
