San Carlo Gresini confirms second bike entry with FTR in 2012 MotoGP season – MotoGP news
Italian MotoGP team, San Carlo Gresini has confirmed to enter its second bike in premier class in collaboration with British chassis constructor FTR.
The second bike will be entered under Claiming Rule Teams (CRT) regulations.
Gresini team owner, Fausto Gresini said, “It is a source of great satisfaction that we have reached an agreement with FTR Moto to take part in the new MotoGP series, CRT. The battle between the Claiming Rule Teams will be an exciting one and we are entering
it with great enthusiasm.”
Previously Gresini team has been racing in MotoGP class with Honda machines. The team competed with two riders Hiroshi Aoyama and late Marco Simoncelli.
The Italian rider, Simoncelli died in a crash during Malaysian Grand Prix and Aoyama has departed from the Gresini team.
Recently the team has signed former Rizla Suzuki rider, Alvaro Bautista for the 2012 MotoGP season. The Spanish rider will race aboard a 1000cc Honda RC213V.
On the other hand, the second bike will be powered by Honda CBR1000RR race tuned engine. The chassis will be developed by Moto2 race winners, FTR.
Gresini further added that the aim for the team has always been to race with a strong technical partner. In this case, FTR and Honda’s power plant the team is determined to produce a race-winning machine under the CRT regulations.
The cost effective regulations by MotoGP have been a strong attraction for many teams that have shown interest for participation in 2012 season. It can possibly be the future for MotoGP.
On the occasion the British based company, FTR also praised the partnership with the Gresini team for the next season.
FTR Chairman, Steve Bones said, “We are absolutely delighted to start up a partnership with Team San Carlo Honda Gresini and to join them on a new adventure in MotoGP. Team Gresini have shown over the years that they are technically competent, as their numerous
successes prove, and we are sure that will continue alongside FTR on this new adventure.”
Bones added that the new CRT regulation is creating new opportunities for the teams. The team is enthused to hit the track with its new machine that will be soon tested.
