San Carlo Honda Gresini hosts official presentation at Monza – MotoGP news
After dominating the Sepang I test and performing quite well at Sepang II ranking at third in top-four Honda riders, Marco Simoncelli, his teammate Hiroshi Aoyama and the team owner Fausto Gresini were present at the 2012 official launching of San Carlo
Honda Gresini team at Monza.
The complete San Carlo Honda Gresini team was present at the Monza circuit on Wednesday. The team revealed its official 2011 MotoGP project and the stunning RC212V machine. The team owner Fausto Gresini and the San Carlo President Alberto Vitaloni with the
whole team were in attendance at the event.
It was a day for fine celebrations as San Carlo was turning 75 years of age and team owner Fausto Gresini had recently touched his 50th year.
Vitaloni said, “We have the foundations for success this year. The team has worked hard in recent years and been patient, and now’s the time to take the rewards of these efforts in MotoGP. In Marco and Hiroshi we have a competitive team, and this is an exciting
time. Good luck to all!”
Marco Simoncelli has performed out of nowhere and surprised everyone with his capability to run for the MotoGP title. Simoncelli ruled the first three-day preseason test at Sepang, for the first two days he played to rank in top-five places but by the final
day he was the fastest rider to look upon and on overall standings Marco Simoncelli was leading the Honda RC212V trio, followed by Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner.
In the second preseason test at Sepang, held later in February, Simoncelli had a gradual improvement in his time standings. On the first day, he was at the eighth place, second day he stood at sixth place and by the final day he was at the third place after
the Repsol Honda duo Casey stoner and Dani Pedrosa, and was followed by their teammate Andrea Dovizioso.
Gresini said, “We believe this will be a great season for us, Simoncelli has made great advances, Honda has prepared an excellent bike and we are delighted to have San Carlo as a title sponsor. They have shared difficult moments with us and I hope now is
the time we can reward them, and we cannot wait to get back on track in Qatar.”
Both Simoncelli and Aoyama are ready for their second seasons in the premier class, and the Italian rider said, “I’m delighted to be here at Monza for this presentation, and the track has brought me luck before. When I was in 250s I had a team presentation
here before the start of the season. Now I cannot wait to get to Qatar for the final pre-season Test and especially for the race.”
