San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Hiroshi Aoyama aims progress at Sachsenring – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Hiroshi Aoyama is back with his Italian team since the Mugello round and is now focused to progress at the upcoming eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.
The ninth MotoGP round will be held at Sachsenring, Germany on July 17, 2011.
Aoyama said, “After the experience at Assen on the factory Repsol Honda Team RC212V I struggled a little bit to get a feel for my Team San Carlo Honda Gresini machine at Mugello.”
Aoyama of the Honda Gresini team was picked as a substitute for the injured Dani Pedrosa. The word was that either Aoyama or John Hopkins will be riding in place for Pedrosa at Silverstone. However, the Repsol Honda team appeared with only two riders, Casey
Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso for the British event.
Later with the arrival of the Dutch TT Assen GP, the HRC team decided to call in Aoyama to ride their factory Honda RC212V. Meanwhile, the Honda Gresini team was provided with HRC’s test rider Kousuke Akiyoshi to fill the gap of Aoyama for the Assen event.
The Japanese rider further said, “To complicate matters I was still in a lot of discomfort from my crash in Holland but I gradually got back on the pace and with the help and dedication of all the guys on the team we came out with a satisfactory result.
The test on the following day was much more positive with a view to Sachsenring.”
Unfortunately, Aoyama lacks MotoGP experience at Sachsenring. In the 2010 premier class season, he was injured and was forced to miss the German Grand Prix.
Aoyama is recalling his 250cc racing stint in order to have some experience of the track. He finished on podium in 2005 and won a race in 2007 in the 250cc class.
Considering the fact the there is a difference in a 250cc machine and a MotoGP prototype, it is not yet known how it will be for Aoyama to ride his RC212V at Sachsenring. Let’s see how he fares in the German Grand Prix set to take place this weekend.
