San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli about to close a 2012 deal with HRC – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli is expecting to close a 2012 deal with Honda Racing Corporation.
It will be an extension to his present contract with new points added to it.
Marco Simoncelli said, “Negotiations are ongoing. We are discussing technical details. I'm open to reinforcements, but changing the crew completely is not right. After two years where we've improved together, it would be strange to break it all apart when
it's time to reap the fruits.”
After the devastation occurred at Japan, HRC is headed to cut down its budget for the MotoGP project. The HRC has decided to reduce the number of factory bikes on the grid.
For the 2012 MotoGP season, there will be two factory RCVs ridden by Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa. Other two riders, Andrea Dovizioso and Marco Simoncelli were left with open doors. HRC has now decided to keep Super Sic for 2012.
Apparently, the deal was offered with a point that Simoncelli has to leave out his technical staff for the 2012 season, the crew which has supported him since 250cc racing times. However, the Italian rider is not agreed upon the point in the new deal.
Super Sic revealed that further discussions will be held at the Indy GP and is hopeful of closing a positive deal with no hidden points.
He is keen to take a decision on the HRC deal offered to him. By the San Marino round, he wants to confirm the situation in any case.
Former Ducati head, Livio Suppo joined Honda Racing Corporation in 2010. He confirmed the clause of the deal that Simoncelli has been asked to remove his crew.
Suppo said, “Nakamoto would like to strengthen the technical side in order to give Marco maximum support because, even if the team has improved, he still sees something lacking. We understand the importance the rider gives to his current crew though so at
Indy, during negotiations, we may backtrack on this point.”
On the other side Simoncelli’s team boss, Fausto Gresini also expressed his views on the deal. He added that it is important to run two bikes on the MotoGP grid and for the purpose, the team has to walk along HRC.
