San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli disappointed with British GP DNF – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli’s performance was hampered by wet race conditions at the recently held British Grand Prix and he crashed out from a fighting third place in the race.
This is Simoncelli’s third ‘did not finish’ status of the 2011 MotoGP season after Jerez and Estoril. The Italian rider has also earned a pole position at the Catalunya GP but unfortunately came sixth in the race. The Jerez event was also held in wet conditions
which did not favour Simoncelli.
Simoncelli said, “I am completely distraught because it seems every week we line up ready for a top race and something happens to deny me. I had already had a moment in the corner I crashed in, so I tried to be more careful but the front closed and I found
myself on the floor waving goodbye to the podium once again.”
Though Simoncelli was disappointed to return home unclassified, he is positive about the upcoming seventh round of the season at Assen, Netherlands. He is hoping for a podium finish and put an end to his bad streak.
The Japanese rider at Honda Gresini team, Hiroshi Aoyama was far down compared to his teammate in race start at 11th position. Aoyama did a great job to stay aboard his satellite Honda machine and rode back to the garage with some points for the
team as the race concluded.
The Japanese rider finished the race at ninth position collecting seven points, better than nothing as Simoncelli. He was also pleased to step ahead with his bike and improve the ride feeling of his machine.
Aoyama said, “It was difficult to get a feeling for the bike in the wet conditions this morning in the warm-up, but as the laps went by in the race, I felt more and more comfortable.”
Hiroshi Aoyama expressed his views and said that the race end was not quite satisfactory but the race setup used was helpful to achieve the goals and gain better results.
