San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli hopeful of winning British Grand Prix – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli is hoping to finish at the top of the podium at the upcoming AirAsia British Grand Prix on June 12, 2011.
Super Sic commented on the tough situation he faced in Barcelona after the Le Mans incident which injured Dani Pedrosa. Simoncelli was under a lot of pressure while performing in the Catalunya Grand Prix and dropped from a pole position start to sixth place
finish in the race behind Valentino Rossi.
Simoncelli said, “Obviously after starting from pole position I was a little disappointed to finish sixth in Barcelona, but overall it was a good weekend for us because of the pace and character we showed. The race could have gone better but we have the
chance to put that right this weekend at Silverstone.”
Simoncelli felt happy while racing at the British circuit in the 2010 season. The Honda Gresini team is looking forward to secure the top position in the British event. Likewise, Simoncelli is equally eager to win the race and mark his first victory in premier
class.
Italian’s teammate, Hiroshi Aoyama had some unfortunate experiences at the British venue. In the 2010 event, the Japanese rider injured his spine which ruled him out for six races in the season.
Aoyama said, “After the crash in Barcelona, when I also took out Randy De Puniet through no fault of his own, I go to Silverstone determined to make up for it. Unfortunately I only have bad memories of the track because it was here last year.”
In last event at Catalunya, he faced another fall sweeping Randy de Puniet with him. The Japanese and French riders both retired form the race as a result.
With all the unfortunate happenings, Aoyama wants to put behind all the past incidents and focus on scoring good points this weekend. His team holds the potential to perform up to the mark and will do their best at the British Grand Prix to move up in the
points table.
