San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli tests 2012 prototype at Motegi – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli made his maiden test ride aboard the 2012 Honda 1000cc prototype, the RC213V.
Super Sic tested the new and bigger RCV at the Twin Ring Motegi following the Japanese GP raceday.
The Italian rider was allowed to test the 2012 machine after he renewed the contract with HRC for the 2012 season. Earlier in the season, Simoncelli was not able to test the 2012 machine because he did not have a contract for the next season.
Simoncelli said, “The big day finally arrived and I was able to test the bike I will be riding in Team San Carlo Honda Gresini colours next year. It was a fantastic experience to get out on the RC213V and I would like thank HRC for the opportunity.”
The Italian rider was able to quickly gain confidence with the new machine. Simoncelli also revealed that his best effort with the RC213V matched his race best lap times. Although any official lap times were not declared by HRC but his fourth place finish
defines very much.
Super Sic added, “I completed 50 laps and quickly felt confident with the new bike, setting similar lap times to the RC212V. At the end of the day I gave my feedback and suggestions, which I hope will be important in the development of the bike from here.”
After spending a hard race day at the Motegi circuit, the Italian is now headed to Philippines to take some time off. Simoncelli will gather himself ahead of the next round taking place at Phillip Island, Australia.
Simoncelli is having a tough time to prove his potential as a race winner. His effort to finish closer to the podium tells a lot about his racing potential.
He is currently at the eighth position in the 2011 MotoGP world championship.
Now HRC are left with three test days for the 2012 machine from the eight allotted days in the season. On the other side, Ducati are left with one day and Yamaha have spent half of their duration. Suzuki have yet not launched their 1000cc prototype and have
full test day limit.
