San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Simoncelli leads warm up session of Gran Premio d’Italia – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli leads the warm up session ahead of the Italian MotoGP race, Gran Premio d’Italia TIM being held at the Mugello circuit.
The Italian rider cheered up his countrymen present at the Tuscan circuit. Super Sic has been very fast since the start of the Italian race weekend.
It will be a very important round for the Italian homeboys Simoncelli, Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi. The unfortunate Loris Capirossi will sit out the home event due to broken ribs.
Simoncelli made a stunning run in the dry warm up session, leaving the Repsol Honda duo, Andrea Dovizioso and Casey Stoner behind him.
Dovizioso also geared up to impress his home crowd at Mugello by placing himself nicely at second place on the warm up time sheet. The Italian Repsol rider will start the race from fourth place at the grid.
The third placed rider was Casey Stoner who actually holds the pole seat for the Italian GP. The Aussie went smooth to gather a feel of the track as it was the only chance to experience the dry asphalt. The newly paved track has held most of the race weekends
under wet conditions.
The fourth fastest rider in the warm up session was Ben Spies being 0.082 seconds slower than Super Sic. The American rider won the Assen GP last weekend and is competitive this weekend as well. He will start off the race from second place between two Honda
RCV riders.
Spies’ teammate Jorge Lorenzo made it to the fifth place for the warm up session and will start his fight for win at Mugello from same place on grid. In the last two events, Silverstone and Assen, he has been hit by misfortune.
The comeback hero in the Repsol squad, Dani Pedrosa showed some progress in the warm up session being faster than his best qualifying lap time. Though he was sixth in the warm up run, but will be starting the race from eighth place on the grid.
Nicky Hayden, Colin Edwards, Valentino Rossi and Hiroshi Aoyama completed the top ten slots of the warm up session.
