San Carlo Honda Gresini riders Aoyama, Simoncelli face tough raceday at Indianapolis – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini riders Hiroshi Aoyama and Marco Simoncelli faced a bizarre raceday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Both Gresini riders fought for grip on the track and merely completed the Indy GP.
During this race weekend, Aoyama was better off than his fast teammate Super Sic. Especially in the race he managed to rider better and his bike delivered better performance than Simoncelli’s factory setup RCV.
Aoyama said, “I am happy but not altogether satisfied with this result. The way the tyres worked and also my physical conditions in this intense heat were plus points for us and we went much well in the race than we had managed in practice.”
Aoyama claimed that with a better start off he could have fought for better position in the race. However, race weekend at Indy has been a positive round for the Japanese rider and his Honda Gresini crew. He is aiming high for the next round at Misano, Italy.
On the other side the Italian rider roared to close up to the front end but shortly after five laps his RCV lost all the traction needed to claim podium finish. Super Sic was victimised by greasy track conditions and high temperatures which ruined his setup
performance. Though he tried some changes in the warm up session but it also failed in rising heat.
Simoncelli said, “Unfortunately today my race only really lasted five laps, during which time I had a lot of fun – it's just a shame about the other 23! We have had this problem all weekend and even though we thought we had improved the situation this morning
it was only because the track temperatures were lower.”
While commenting on his race situation he said that as the temperatures increased the bike dropped its ability. Somehow, he tried to keep up with the pace of his fellow riders but eventually he lost all the work he had done from the start off.
After all the efforts, he aimed to finish the race without crashing out. He rode slowly and maintained his steady pace with the back end riders. Now the team will look into the data collected from the race and analyse the problem.
