San Carlo Honda Gresini to retain Marco Simoncelli for 2012 season – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini team boss, Fausto Gresini has revealed that Marco Simoncelli will retain his position with the Italian team for the 2012 MotoGP season.
Super Sic has been given an extension in his contract for the next season and will also enjoy the factory setup Honda RC213V.
Simoncelli is delighted to stay with the HRC and San Carlo team. His satisfaction increased after the confirmation of general level factory supported RCV.
Simoncelli said, “To be kept on as part of project that Honda HRC are so supportive of in collaboration with Team San Carlo Honda Gresini gives me a lot of confidence and all the motivation I need to show that I can be amongst the best in MotoGP again.”
Considering his performance in the ongoing season, the 2012 season is being termed very important for the rider and the team. Super Sic is thankful to the team members who proposed him for the next season.
After long negotiations with HRC, Fausto Gresini was pleased to announce the deal. Gresini was also aiming to keep Simoncelli for the next season.
Gresini said, “I am really happy to announce that Marco will be back with Team San Carlo Honda Gresini in 2012. Over the past two years together we have been able to appreciate Marco's qualities as a rider, as a man and as an extroverted communicator, which
made us keen to continue our collaboration.”
The Italian team boss worked hard to convince the team sponsors. The strong sponsorship support was necessary to carry on the factory setup for Super Sic. Following HRC’s strategy for 2012, Honda dropped their budget for factory machines.
The budget reduction has also left factory rider Andrea Dovizioso with no seat for the next season.
For the 2012 season, HRC will provide factory RC213V with a medium level of technical support. This is a great milestone for the 15-year long relationship with the Japanese manufacturer.
