San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Marco Simoncelli says no pressure to score podium at Brno – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli has revealed that he is not going to take pressure to score a podium place this weekend at Brno.
The Italian is aiming to successfully complete the Cardion AB Grand Prix race weekend.
Simoncelli said, “Sure this pressure to get my first podium has been coming stronger but for me it is not a big problem. I try to race with a clear mind even though everybody is looking for me to get my first podium and I just try to do my best without thinking
too much about the pressure. After the holidays I feel more relaxed and ready to fight for the last part of the championship.”
Though all Super Sic fans are looking forward that he will break through his zero podium finish record this season but Simoncelli has said that he will be racing with no confusions in his mind.
In the first half of the season, he has been trying hard to achieve a podium finish. Despite scoring two pole seats from several front row starts, he has not earned any podium finish.
At Estoril, the Italian rider was also able to lead the wet Portuguese GP but in trying hard, he crashed and missed valuable points from the race.
While riding under pressure on racedays, he has missed a chance recreate his outstanding performance that he showed in practice session and qualifying rounds.
To date, his best race finish has been a fifth place, especially after the Le Mans crash with Dani Pedrosa. He was running top three slots and had a good chance to finish on podium. However, after tangling up with Pedrosa and forcing him to crash, Simoncelli
was penalised with a ride-through penalty that dropped him to seventh and finally fifth across the finish line.
The Italian has also been under strong criticism by fellow MotoGP riders and officials about his racing tactics. On one occasion, he was also engaged in a battle with Jorge Lorenzo which ruined his image.
However, he is now focused on racing again and will try to collect some decent points from the Brno raceday on Sunday, August 14, 2011.
