San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Marco Simoncelli takes maiden podium at Brno – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli has scored his first 2011 MotoGP season podium finish at Brno.
Though he qualified in the second row to start the race, but he managed to pull out good start off from the line. His teammate Hiroshi Aoyama had a tough day at Brno as he claimed a ninth place finish.
Simoncelli said, “I am really happy. I have been very strong this year but it has been tough because we have had some difficult situations to deal with. The team and I have never lost faith and finally the result has come, so I want to thank all of them,
as well as Honda and anybody else who has maintained their belief in me.”
The Italian rider was hoping to complete the race without any mishaps. Super Sic was riding fast and tactfully in the race. This time at Brno, he was focused to only race and race good to the end as apparently he denied an effort for a podium finish.
However, the race day was in favour of Simoncelli as he galloped from fifth place on the grid. Super Sic started the race behind Valentino Rossi as he managed to jump ahead of Simoncelli from start off. It caused him to tangle up with Rossi and fight for
a position battle.
Simoncelli shared that the fight was short but it was a great challenge to beat Rossi. The Ducati rider, Rossi defended his position for about three corners but eventually lost it to Simoncelli.
In the final moments, Simoncelli paced up to fight with Dovizioso but he was too far ahead and the time was short. Finally, Simoncelli decided to hold on his third position and defend himself from closing up Jorge Lorenzo.
Aoyama said, “I am satisfied to have finished the race and to have finished it in ninth place. We had some grip problems but overall the bike was working well. I felt physically good and that means I can now look forward to the remaining races.”
Aoyama was pleased with Honda Gresini’s first podium in the season and appreciated Marco Simoncelli for his success.
