San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Marco Simoncelli tends to end 2011 season with podium finishes - MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli hopes to take consecutive podium finishes in the last two round of the 2011 MotoGP season.
Super Sic aims to take his first win in the season out of odds.
Simoncelli said, “I left Phillip Island, a circuit and place I really love, feeling very happy. I had another good race and finished second after another wonderful battle with Dovizioso, which gave me a lot of satisfaction. I had been second for the whole
race.”
The Italian rider also added that after being second in majority of the race so far, it would be difficult to accept Andrea Dovizioso of Repsol taking second step on the podium.
Though he praised the moment of his yet the career best MotoGP race finish, but he also had the Malaysian round in sight.
Earlier in the year, the Italian rider showed his potential at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), during the pre-season winter testing. Two of the three test sessions were held at SIC. With radically developed RC212V the Italian was ready to play on
top.
However, Simoncelli has not won any event at Sepang during his 250cc racing era, but in last two seasons he took consecutive podium finishes at SIC.
The winter MotoGP testing and his previous experience of SIC give him confidence to take the win for the event. It might bless him with his season’s maiden win in his rookie premier class season.
After taking his maiden second place finish, he is willing to take win and end the season in style with a podium finish in Valencia.
The Japanese rider Hiroshi Aoyama of Honda Gresini was victimised by rain at the Phillip Island, failing to give his best shot.
Aoyama stated, “The weekend in Australia didn't start too badly and after the first couple of sessions, I was looking forward to a positive race at a track where the atmosphere is always really special. Unfortunately, the weather turned and it caused me
a few problems, including a heavy crash on Saturday.”
The rain only wet a particular section of the track which was totally unexpected by the riders. The rain dropped and shortly stopped which left riders with no clue of wet tarmac.
