San Carlo Honda riders Simoncelli, Aoyama pleased with initial outing at Brno – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini riders Marco Simoncelli and Hiroshi Aoyama had a positive first day of the race weekend for the Cardion AB Grand Prix at Brno, Czech Republic.
The Italian rider was fast enough to score a third seat in the first free practice session. In the second free practice session, he sustained the third position but improved his lap time by a few seconds.
Simoncelli said, “I’m happy with the two sessions today because we have come back from the holidays immediately on the pace. Pedrosa's speed is impressive, but right now the priority for me is to improve my confidence with the bike and not think about him.”
The Italian expressed that he and his team have been working hard to improve the setup and the main focus is to change his riding position for better feel. Everyone at Honda Gresini is optimistic to have a great race day.
While working on the setup of RC212V he was also trying to improve the corner entry. This will allow Simoncelli to stick to his race line while taking a corner and assure more confidence under braking.
After little tweaks, the Italian expressed his satisfaction with the improvement and aims to improve further on the second day of the race weekend.
Aoyama said, “I am happy to be back on track here at Brno after the summer break. I found a good feeling on the bike, even though this is the first time I have ridden it at this circuit. The team is working well and I’m sure we can improve our position tomorrow.”
After the Assen crash while riding a factory Honda RC212V, Aoyama has been suffering to regain the feel aboard his satellite RCV. He has also been facing reviving pain in his body that has impeded his performance.
At Brno, while he was riding a MotoGP bike for the first time, he felt better. Though he could not score a good position in both practice sessions, yet he feels there is a margin for improvement by spending more time on track.
