San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers happy to see Peyton Manning playing for Denver Broncos – NFL News
Not many players would want to have quarterback Peyton Manning in their division playing for the opposing team. Yet there are players like San Diego Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers who want to play against a player like Manning.
Talking to the NFL Network on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, Rivers said:
"I was probably one of the few people that was crazy enough to say it, but I was hoping he was going to Denver," He said "And I say that with all respect.”
Manning has joined Denver Broncos after playing for more than a decade with Indianapolis Colts.
In his time with Colts, he received four Most Valuable Player (MVP) titles and was named for 11 Pro Bowls. He also won a Super Bowl with them.
The elite quarterback has been one of the greatest players this game has ever seen. He is a future Hall of Famer.
He has been out of the game for nearly 18 months after having a terrible neck injury. Manning was released by Colts in March 2011.
In May 2012, he signed a five year, $90 million contract with Broncos. Although he looked well during this offseason, it will be interesting to see how he performs on the field after the injury.
In the past, Rivers had a great time against Manning. During Manning’s time at Colts, Chargers beat them in four out of five encounters.
Rivers, on the other hand, is a class act. He likes to play against quality teams and facing elite players. He said:
"I always believe, why wouldn't you want to play the best?" he added. "And to get two times to play the best, I got my hands full, we got our hands full with the Bronco defense. To me, any time you're playing a Peyton Manning-led football team, there's a
challenge -- but that's what you dream about growing up as a kid."
Manning will have a chance to face Rivers twice this season as he leads Broncos and it will be a big contest between two of the American Football Conference’s best quarterbacks.
