San Diego Chargers aim to return to winning ways as they face Kansas City Chiefs – NFL Preview
San Diego Chargers will be on road to face Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 game on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City.
It is the game between two teams that had a contrasting start to the season. Chargers got to an astounding start, winning their first two games with a big margin before they struggled big time during 27-3 loss in Week 3 against Atlanta Falcons.
On the other hand, Kansas City Chiefs (1-2) went through Week 1 and 2 winless and then looked revitalised in Week 3 with an emphatic 27-24 win against New Orleans Saints in overtime.
Chiefs’ victory came out of the oblivion during the game on Sunday, September 23. They were trailing 24-6 towards the end of the third quarter when running back Jamaal Charles showed his skills with a franchise record-breaking 91-yard run for a touchdown.
Kansas City will look forward to having similar type of performance from their offence this Sunday. Talking about the game, Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said:
"Games like this can build momentum throughout a season. Being able to win a game like that brings a team together."
Chargers (2-1) did break free from their record of having lacklustre starts to the season ever since they are playing under head coach Norv Turner. It was their best start under his tenure. However, all that was shattered during Week 3 game.
It will be a headache for Chargers to stop the sparkling running game of the Chiefs. They are facing a lot of injury worries and it is confirmed that centre Hudson, who has a leg injury, will be unavailable for the game.
There are casualties on the offensive side of the ball as well. Wide receiver Dexter McCluster, tight end Kevin Boss and running back Peyton Hillis are all doubtful for the game.
Chargers offence looked meagre against Falcons. It was their biggest loss in the decade. They will need to step up their game in order to get good numbers on the score sheet. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said:
"It's a new week, and we know how important it is to win division games. We're headed into Kansas City, and they're coming off a huge game in New Orleans. So there's no time to overanalyze the previous game or sulk, because we've got to go on the road and
win in a new environment. Kansas City doesn't care that we lost or how we feel. We have to go in there and win that game."
It is a game between two teams that have tendency to come up with surprising performances, both in a good and bad way.
However, the final score will depend on whether Chiefs running game will continue to yield benefits for them.
