San Diego Chargers ask supporters to “take a chill pill” after the team’s recent woes – NFL News
The atmosphere for San Diego Chargers has been heating up ever since they went through a miserable home game 28-35 defeat against Denver Broncos last week.
As Chargers fans have shown their anger via social media, Chargers director of public relations Bill Johnston has sent a message to the fans, asking them to calm down.
Johnston published an article on the team’s website on Thursday, October 18, 2012, and asked the fans to realise that win and loss is part of the game. He said:
"Time to take a chill pill. No one knows what will happen this season, yet alone the next game. That's the beauty of the National Football League. I don't know, you don't know, no one knows what's going to happen. If you want these players and coaches to
succeed, then support them. Don't tear them down.”
This message from Chargers administration is unlikely to have a big effect on the fans’ behaviour. The only way to stop the criticism is to play well and get victories.
Chargers gave away five turnovers from a total of six plays in the second half of the game against Broncos.
This allowed Broncos to score 35 points and take the game away after a dismal first half in which they were 28 points behind Chargers.
Chargers have not just received criticism from fans, even their general manager A.J. Smith has come up and publicly showed his frustration about the team’s recent downfall.
However, Johnston believes that Chargers still have time to regroup as they head into bye week. Johnston said:
"Your team is 3-3, tied at the top of the division, and has 10 games to play. If the Chargers are your team, get behind them and stay behind them. We're all at our best when we know others believe in us."
There seems to be a big contradiction amongst the Chargers’ administrative ranks about what to do next. Maybe the owner needs to step in now and sort out the mess. Chargers will play their next game in Week 8 against Cleveland Browns on October 28.
