San Diego Chargers backup running back Ronnie Brown returns to form in preseason finale – NFL News
Although there were not many positives for San Diego Chargers during the final preseason game against San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, August 30, 2012, there was one performance which would have given a bit of relief to Chargers camp.
That performance was of backup running back Ronnie Brown who showed outstanding skills in the running game despite the team’s defeat, 35-3.
Brown is looking forward to working as a starter in absence of starting running back Ryan Mathews who is struggling to recover from his injury.
Mathews will likely miss season opener on September 10 against Oakland Raiders as he is recovering from broken clavicle.
Brown managed to complete five carries for 25 yards during the game. Chargers are hoping for a better output from Brown during the regular season.
Chargers’ running game has been poor to say the least during the offseason. Before the start of the game on Thursday, Chargers were hanging on 31st position in per yard game average with 66.3 yards per game.
Brown was quite satisfied with his performance. After the game, he talked with reporters and said:
“I felt like I did alright and made a couple of improvements, but I’ve still got a lot of work to do. I’m getting a better feel out there and that was my goal all along, to get a better feel each week as we went along.  I felt a bit rusty on a couple of
runs and I’m working on trying to feel natural and just run.  But I felt better than I did last week and I feel ready for the regular season.”
Brown has the experience to cope up with any emergency situation. Chargers have full confidence that he will shine once he gets a good amount of playing time.
Chargers head coach Norv Turner was particularly impressed with Brown’s output. Turner said:
“I thought Ronnie showed a lot of life today. He had a lot of energy.”
Brown, 30, played for Philadelphia Eagles last season after playing six seasons with Miami Dolphins. He was drafted by Dolphins as a second overall pick in the 2005 draft.
