San Diego Chargers coach Norv Turner blames himself for team's 2-4 start
Only Norv Turner knows how his team, the San Diego Chargers, can lead the league in total offence, and on total defence. But somehow they have won only two games so far this season. Faced with the Chargers current situation, Turner is suggesting that the
only one to blame is himself.
"Hey, I'm accountable," Turner said Monday, 18 October. "You know how I feel about it, it's all on me, and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure we get it straightened out."
The Chargers dropped to 2-4 on the season when their efforts came up short against the St. Louis Rams last Sunday, 17 October. Their loss is especially surprising given the fact that the Chargers have won the AFC West Division for the last four seasons and
have put up impressive numbers on both sides of the ball.
The Chargers special teams, led by special teams coach Steve Crosby, has had a number of breakdowns so far this season, but Turner has been supportive of his staff.
"I really like our staff, and I like the way they prepare and coach," Turner said. "I feel, like I said about Crosby the other day, we've gotten in this hole, and I can't think of a better group of guys to coach this group to get us out of it."
The Chargers did make several changes during the off-season leading many to suggest that the Chargers' AFC West dominance might be on the decline.
"I hope not. I mean, that's not what our intention was. That's not what my intention is now," Turner said. "I don't think any one of our players feels that way. I don't want it to turn into that. We've got a lot of work to do, though. Obviously we've dug
ourselves a hole and we have a a pretty demanding schedule coming up as we continue through this."
