San Diego Chargers defensive end Corey Liuget having a breakout season – NFL News
Even though San Diego Chargers got another heartbreaking loss with a 13-16 defeat by mighty Baltimore Ravens in Week 12 game on Sunday, November 25, 2012, there were some positives that came out of the game which includes the performance of defensive end
Corey Liuget.
Liuget was in the forefront of the astounding performance Chargers defensive team gave during the game.
The defence looked superb as it compiled nine tackles and five sacks against the top Ravens offence.
Liuget produced the best performance of his two-year professional career. He finished the game with career-high six tackles and one sack.
The defensive end expressed his views about how he has matured as a player this season. While talking to the media on Tuesday, November 27, Liuget said:
“We just have a different mindset as a defence to go out, get pressure on the quarterback, bring him to the ground, make plays, score touchdowns, whatever we can do to help this team win and get this thing on the right track. We’re just out there fighting.
We’re fighting and we’re fighting and we just have to turn them into wins. That’s the most important thing.”
Ever since being drafted by Chargers in the first round of the 2011 draft, Liuget has kept a low profile and has slowly and steadily grown as a team player.
However, the 2012 season has been a breakout season for him and the credit should be given to Chargers for keeping patience in times when Liuget was not at his best.
Liuget has given many standout performances this season despite the fact that the team is playing a not-so-comfortable 3-4 defensive formation.
The defensive end does not think last Sunday’s performance was his best. He believes his best output is the one that gives the team victory. Liuget went on and said:
“I can say that, but it wasn’t good enough. It would have felt a lot better with a W. It was a good game, but not great enough.”
In 26 games played in his career, Liuget has 50 tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble. He has also recovered fumbles twice during this period.
