San Diego Chargers fuddled by their recent collapse against Baltimore Ravens in Week 12 – NFL News
The San Diego Chargers have still not come out of shock after they yet again failed to retain the lead and lost Week 12 game against Baltimore Ravens by 13-16 on Sunday, November 25, 2012.
Many of the players showed utter stupor on Monday, November 26, about not being able to capitalise on the big-margin leads they got against big teams. Talking to UT San Diego about the team’s dismal loss, linebacker Jarret Johnson said:
“It's just really frustrating because we've shown we can play. I’ve been on bad teams, riddled with injuries, bad guys, dysfunctional. This team is every bit the opposite of that ... We've shown we're a talented team, offensively and defensively. And at
the same time, we've turned around and proven time and again that we just don't know how to win.”
Chargers were 13-3 entering the final quarter of that game when Ravens running back Ray Rice turned the things around and took the game to overtime where Ravens scored the winning points.
It was not the first time that Chargers lost the game by throwing away a healthy lead. This has been the case for Chargers throughout this season.
Chargers blew away another chance to win against a team with winning record. They had a similar opportunity against Denver Broncos in Week 6 when they took 24 points lead in the first half only to lose by 24-35.
The offence scored a mere three points in the second half for the fifth time in last eight contests. The team has lost six of their last seven games and is on brink of losing all their chances for qualifying to the playoffs.
This has taken a big toll on the players and they know that changing the attitude of the entire roster can turn things around. Explaining the current atmosphere inside the locker room, linebacker Takeo Spikes said:
"Everybody is baffled. It's puzzled, distraught."
Chargers are certainly facing a possibility of being down and out, but a team that can put up huge leads against quality opponents can have the tenacity to turn things around rapidly.
