San Diego Chargers have high expectations of 2012 season – NFL News
The National Football League (NFL) has announced the schedule for the 2012 season and upon receiving their schedule, the San Diego Chargers seem excited with head coach, Norv Turner, and quarterback, Philip Rivers, having high expectations of the season.
Chargers are going to start their regular season against Oakland Raiders on September 10. Turner said of the season opener:
"The first thing I always look for is our division games – when we play them and the circumstance you’re under. So obviously that game will get the thing started, and it doesn’t get more exciting than playing the Raiders and playing in your division. It’s
a great rivalry and it’s a real test when you go on the road for a Monday night game to open the season."
After starting the season on Raiders’ home field, Chargers will return home where they will first host Tennessee Titans and then Atlanta Falcons before travelling to play against Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints.
Before their bye week, Chargers will host the Denver Broncos who have acquired services of veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning.
After the bye week, Chargers will play five games on their home field and five away from home.
Chargers will play their regular season finale against the Raiders and will take on the Broncos twice in the season.
They are going to play a total of six games against their American Football Conference (AFC) West opponents and Rivers thinks that if the team manages to win all or most of them, Chargers will have a strong chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
“If you win all six of them, there’s a really, really, really good chance you’re going to be playing in the postseason.”
In the last NFL season, Chargers made a good start to the regular season, but they lost six games in a row after their bye week and seriously damaged their playoff chances.
At the end, they finished with winning eight games and losing eight and were ranked at second spot in the AFC West Division, just behind the Broncos, who eventually qualified for the playoffs from the division.
Chargers are hoping not to repeat the same mistakes again and make it to the playoffs this time.
