San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner assures team will get over their concerns – NFL News
San Diego Chargers were unable to capitalise on their winning start as they have lost two of their last three games, but head coach Norv Turner is optimistic that his team will be able to make a comeback.
Turner attended a news conference after practice session on Monday, October 08, 2012, and looked in a positive frame of mind despite Chargers’ demoralising 31-24 loss against New Orleans Saints on Sunday, October 07.
Talking about Chargers’ overall performance this season, Turner expressed his satisfaction with the way his team is working at the moment. Turner said:
"I love the way our team is preparing, I love the way our team is aggressive.  We’re playing extremely physical and extremely fast.  We’ve got to take the next step and overcome the adversity that happens in a game and be able to finish a game.  We’ve done
that in three of our games, and this week we weren’t able to do it.”
Chargers were aiming for a win last Sunday when some tough calls from the referees changed the course of the game.
One of the most crucial calls was when linebacker Melvin Ingram was penalised for roughing the passer; this in turn negated the interception returned for a touchdown.
However, Turner accepted the fact that many of the calls are made with respect to the safety of the game. Turner said:
“I think that it’s pretty clear that the league has done an awful lot to make sure that quarterbacks are protected. They do get in very vulnerable situations. If you lead with the crown, you’re probably going to get penalized.”
Turner looked particularly happy with the performance of running back Ryan Mathews, who made a remarkable comeback after struggling with his performance in the last few weeks.
Mathews carried the ball 12 times for 80 yards and scored a touchdown. He also caught six catches and covered 59 passing yards.
Turner indicated that Mathews will likely start in their next tie which is against Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos on Monday, October 15.
