San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner claims to be having no job threat – NFL News
After admitting earlier this week that he was feeling pressure, San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner has now backed out of his comments and says that there was no threat to his job, even in case of his team’s defeat against Kansas City Chiefs in Week
9.
Talking to North County Times on Thursday, November 01, 2012 after getting a 31-13 win over Chiefs, Turner denied having any stress of holding on his job. He said:
“I don’t believe it is true. You try not to be affected, and I sure don’t want anyone in this room to think I’m affected. I don’t want them to be affected, and I don’t think they were today.”
Even though the coach might not agree with this notion, Turner was facing some serious pressure before this game from the fans to step out of his post.
However, his players have always been supportive of him. Many of them came out after the win and appreciated Turner for the way he managed the team. Linebacker Jarret Johnson said:
“Norv is a great man and we have all the respect in the world for him. He deserves better than what we've given him these last three weeks. We're going to stand behind him. We're going to win games for us as a team. We're going to win games for Norv. The
criticism directed our way was earned because we didn't play well enough to win.”
Players have certainly not helped Turner in terms of giving good performances on the field.
Before getting the recent win, Chargers lost three games in a row. Quarterback Philip Rivers was on top of the list for taking criticism due to his lacklustre performance.
Rivers has thrown 10 interceptions this season which has been a vital cause of concern for Turner.
However, the quarterback made an astounding comeback after finishing last game with a staggering 18 of 20 for 220 yards and a touchdown.
Turner will be a happy man at the end of the season if his team continues to play the same way.
