San Diego Chargers impressed by wide receiver Robert Meachem’s output in the camp – NFL News
After joining San Diego Chargers this offseason, wide receiver Robert Meachem seems to have gained a new life in his career.
He has been impressive throughout the offseason, especially during training camp, where he has received much praise for his productivity.
One player is particularly happy with Meachem’s ability to make speedy runs on the field. That player is quarterback, Philip Rivers, who is hoping to develop a good partnership with his new receiver.
Rivers said:
“Robert obviously brings a lot of speed. He also has a strong veteran presence and is a guy who demands a lot of himself.  He fits right in with what we are trying to accomplish here.”
Meachem is famous for getting those deep passes on the field and this will certainly help make the quarterback’s job easier.
The Chargers have been working very hard to make this offensive combination gel in before the start of the regular season.
Considering his physique, 6 foot 2, 215 pound Meachem has the speed that will threaten even the best defences in the league.
Meachem also has the depth of experience playing the league as he will start his sixth season in the NFL.
The wide receiver himself is excited about the playing with Chargers and with a quarterback of Rivers’ stature.
Meachem said:
“My role is to be a big play guy and make plays. My favourite part about joining this team is that we throw the ball. Fans should expect more of the same from me,”
He signed up for the Chargers as a free agent this offseason after playing five seasons with New Orleans Saints.
Last season, Meachem received 40 passes, covered 620 yards and got six touchdowns. Chargers Head Coach Norv Turner thinks that Meachem can be an instant hit in the wide receiving corps.
The head coach is looking forward to seeing Meachem to play a big role in the team’s offence in the season ahead.
“He’s just a complete receiver that can beat you any number of ways. He’s an explosive player that makes big plays, and he’s got great hands, so he’s an excellent third down receiver.”
Meachem, 27, is still young and is entering his prime years. He was drafted by the Saints in the first round (27th overall pick) in 2007 draft.
