San Diego Chargers left tackle Jared Gaither’s fitness remains in jeopardy – NFL News
San Diego Chargers are worried the about the condition of their re-signed left tackle Jared Gaither, as he has not managed to fully recover on time to play right from the start of the season.
Gaither himself looks a bit frustrated by the way his recovery has progressed. He was a bit agitated when he was asked about his fitness by reporters in front of his locker on Monday, September 03, 2012.
He reiterated that he is a professional athlete and getting injured is a part of any athlete’s life. While taking questions for the first time in two weeks, Gaither said:
"I'm a professional athlete. These things happen. This isn't like something that's not out of the ordinary. People get hurt, and they work to get back."
There are some serious doubts about Gaither’s fitness as he not been able to practise with Chargers since July 27 due to back spasm. He has a history of suffering from different injuries again and again.
Chargers have announced that Gaither would not be fit enough to play in Week 1 game. They have named undrafted rookie Michael Harris as a starting left tackle for their season opener against Oakland Raiders to be played on September 10.
Veteran Gaither has missed all of training camp as well as preseason, so it will be difficult for him to jump right back into business whenever he becomes available to play.
The player has pointed out that he will not play until he believes that he is 100 percent fit.
It should be noted that things could become difficult for Gaither if Harris puts on an impressive show against Raiders.
While remaining out of the field Gaither must dedicate some time in watching game films. When asked about whether he is doing such thing, Gaither said:
"I'm a professional athlete. I think I do well in the film room, and I study and do all those things. That's not really a question."
Chargers re-signed Gaither with hopes of getting the same type of performance he gave in the five games he started last season.
