San Diego Chargers rely on home-game advantage against Denver Broncos in their – NFL Week 6 Preview
Peyton Manning against San Diego Chargers has always been an exciting encounter and it will get another twist on Monday, October 15, 2012, as Manning will enter Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, for the first time in the orange jersey of Denver Broncos.
The quarterback has been very impressive with his new team, beating the expectations of many pundits after coming back on the field from a career-threatening injury.
Manning is currently standing in the fourth position overall in the league with the quarterback rating of 101.2. His 66 % pass completion is very impressive for a 15-year old veteran.
However, Manning does not have an outstanding record against Chargers. Starting against Chargers, Manning has been at the losing end for five out of last six occasions.
Chargers head coach Norv Turner believes crowd has always played a major role in making setting up momentum for the team. Turner said:
"Monday night I expect our fans to have a big part in it. It's part of the reason that we've had a lot of success against Manning. They're an off-the-line or a no-huddle team and the crowd can affect that greatly."
Contrary to Manning’s record, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has been most successful against Broncos with 64.4 percent pass completion rate.
Rivers has finished on the winning side against Broncos in nine out of 12 occasions along with a total of 20 touchdowns.
The quarterback is also in tremendous form this season. In Chargers’ last game against New Orleans Saints, Rivers completed 31 out of 44 passes for 345 yards and scored three superb touchdowns.
Chargers (3-2) are giving better output in the defensive side of the game as compared to the Broncos defence.
Chargers are currently ranked fifth in the league for rush defence with the average of 74.0 yards allowed per game. Only one opposing running back has been able to put more than 100 rushing yards in their last 12 encounters.
Broncos (2-3) have lost three of their last four ties, mainly because of giving away large amount of turnovers to the opponents. Giving his views about this problem, Broncos head coach John Fox said:
"The problem has been getting the ball back to our offense. We have to do a better job. It's something I can promise you will get better, and it will get addressed. In time, hopefully, we get it. Obviously, division opponents are very critical. We'll remain
focused. Our guys will remain positive, despite all the noise on the outside.”
This game will have a great impact towards the end of the season in standings of the American Football Conference (AFC) West. The last time these two sides faced each other was in the 2011 season. Chargers won that game 29-24.
