San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews feeling good about his speed of recovery – NFL News
San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews has been out for nearly three weeks after getting injured, but has recovered rapidly.
While playing against Green Bay Packers on August 09, Mathews injured his clavicle as he landed on the ground very badly. It was his first carry of the game and he was able to cover just five yards.
During these two weeks, Ryan has shown good progress. He is very satisfied with the pace of his rehabilitation.
At the end of a recent practice session, Ryan took some time to talk with reporters. He said:
“I’m feeling good and like my old self. I’m pushing for that first game. I’m able to run and workout.  I’m also pushing myself to get my legs under me.”
Initially, doctors had predicted that Mathews would take at least four to six weeks to fully recover, but Ryan hoped that he would become fully fit at the start of the season.
This certainly looks to be the case for Mathews as he is looking to forward to showing full fitness in the season opener against Oakland Raiders on September 10. Mathews said:
"I'm definitely ahead of schedule, I've always been a fast healer, and that's proving true right now. My range of motion is improving and I'm feeling really good. I've been staying upbeat about an unfortunate situation, and everything I do right now is about
getting healthy. Honestly, I can't wait to get back on the field."
On Monday, August 27, doctors cleared Mathews for doing upper body exercises alongside exercises of the lower body.
Chargers head coach Norv Turner is pleased to see his quality running back feeling well enough to be back on the field. He said:
“Ryan is making progress. He didn’t hurt his legs and he’s running well once they cleared him to run.”
Chargers are hoping to get Mathews back soon otherwise they will face the possibility of playing backup players  who might either be Le’Ron McClain, Curtis Brinkley or Ronnie Brown.
Mathews, who became a Pro Bowler last season, is hoping to have a standout season even with the possibility of facing some shortcomings at the start of the season.
