San Diego Chargers tight end Dante Rosario looking more than just a backup – NFL News
Passing game was one of the worries for San Diego Chargers as they were heading into Week 2 game against Tennessee Titans without their star tight end Antonio Gates.
However, all those concerns were put to rest when their backup tight end Dante Rosario gave spectacular performance to take the game away from Titans. Rosario played a big role in Chargers 38-10 win on Sunday, September 16, 2012.
Rosario scored as many as three touchdowns in the game. During the postgame talk, he accepted that even he was not expecting to carry out such an amazing work. He said:
“You never know what’s possible. I work hard every day to prepare for anything.  Gates was a last second decision for today, so it wasn’t even a sure thing that I would get the number of reps that I did.  I just tried to make the most of the opportunity,
and I have a bunch of great guys around me that allowed me to do that.”
Rosario played a vital role in giving Chargers an early lead as they got two touchdowns in their first two plays with an 11 and four-yard throw to Rosario respectively by quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Even Gates appreciated the way Rosario has played during the first two games and hopes that he will be able to sustain the pressure of replacing him. Gates said:
“When we initially brought him in, we had a strong idea of what he brought to the table. All through training camp you got an idea of what he brings to the table.”
Rosario has always felt right at home at Qualcomm Stadium, getting half of his total career touchdowns at this venue.
He enjoyed the space he was given by the Titans defence as they did not double team him during the game as other teams usually do.
Rosario was drafted by Carolina Panthers in the fifth round (155th overall pick) of the 2007 draft. He played four seasons with Panthers before joining Denver Broncos in the 2011 season.
