San Diego Golf Academy?

Question

Has anyone attended the SDGA? How was it? How were the classes? Is it worth the almost $30,000 for an associates degree? Good instructors? Did you find a good paying job after the class? How were the living conditions? The people? Do the credits transfer to a four year college if neccisary?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have NOT attended SDGA, but.............

I have worked in the golf industry for 15 or so years in 4 different states.

I am not here to deter you from attending the school. If money is not an issue and it is something you want to do (I here it is very fun) then I would say by all means that you should go. It will definitely help you in the future. But of all the GM's and head pro's that I have worked around (shop staff included) very few went to an academy.

If working in the golf industry is a goal of yours I would recommend that you just start doing it. If your good enough to get your PGA card (the PAT is a breeze for good players) then you can do all the studying on your own at a fraction of the cost and time.

So, is money is an issue??? Then skip it. If you are young, got the time and money then I would definitely say do it (but you will still have to pass the PAT and do all the studying anyway).

To work in the golf industry, you just have to be PGA certified.

A degree is not necessary.  Start looking for a Golf  Summer Camp job.

I am a high school golf coach and one of my former golfers is there now. He came into town on a break a few weeks ago and said he loves it. He said he is learning a lot about the golf swing and the industry. His game has also improved a lot (he has gone from the high 70s to under par). The country club he worked for during high school has loaned him the money for tuition and he will pay it back by working for the club for 3 years at a salary he has already negotiated after he graduates.
