San Diego Padres’ Anthony Rizzo might get traded – MLB News
The San Diego Padres top prospect, Anthony Rizzo might get traded to some other team in the league. Some inside sources have revealed that the trade will involve an experienced player who is also from the American League.
The National League is already done dealing with new players’ contracts and only AL has some good players remaining on the trading block. A top prospect in the minor league as he played for the Portland Sea Dogs an AA Eastern League affiliate of the Boston
Red Sox, Rizzo made a successful arrival in the Padres franchise in 2010, when they traded All-Star, Adrian Gonzalez.
Even at that time, Rizzo was considered a top player who will fulfill all the needs of Padres in the coming seasons. As time progressed, the Padres management realised that they cannot wait so long for a certain player to become productive. Now, both Padres
and Rizzo are facing the same kind of situation and the expected trade is on the line before the next season will start.
Earlier, many journalists started to ask the Padres’ international scouting and player development director, Randy Smith, that how he reacted when he came to know all about the speculations about a player whom he chose for the Padres some two years ago.
Though Smith did not give any relative answer to that question but he did explain about the new rotation suggestion for Rizzo’s game that later the Padres management also endorsed. Smith said, “He’s a good first baseman, but it wouldn’t hurt if he can play
left field, we’re not changing positions, but if we have both guys [Yonder Alonso is of course the other] in the system, it makes sense to see.”
Some say that Rizzo plays more of a defensive game which is becoming the late issue of his trade. On the other hand, a close look at his 2011 statistics suggests the player’s potential. Playing a total of 49 games, Rizzo went with a hitting average of .141
along with one home run, nine RBIs and a pretty consistent .281 OBP that makes him a good player to enter into the 2012 season.
