San Diego Padres Organisation show their humane side- MLB News
The San Diego Padres have been showing their humane side this off-season via charity route in which a number of their players have been participating in as well. They have been making appearances on different events and also have made monetary contributions.
These events include NSW Command (SEALS) Family Holiday Party, The Monarch Schools Crocs Delivery, the Junior Seau Foundation’s “Shop with a Jock” event, Salvation Army Thanksgiving dinner and Shop with a Cop amongst a number of other events they participated
in.
Every player in the Padres living in the area has at least participated in one such event this season. Pitcher Cory Luebke is having his first off-season in San Diego. He is currently getting back in shape for the upcoming 2013 season after having a Tommy
John Surgery in May.
He is not spending his off-season in home state of Ohio this year and he is making the most of his time in way of charitable work. Cory has been willingly participating in the Padres’ charitable work and is pleased to see the reaction of the people.
"You see how appreciative people are," Luebke said recently.
Cory is pleased to have an opportunity to give back to those who have done so much for the country, the military families. He understands that some of these people have had their lives permanently changed in the line of duty for their homeland.
"Some of the events, like when we're helping the military and Little Leaguers of military families ... you look at the people you're helping," Luebke said. "These are people who are making bigger sacrifices for us. A lot of things have happened to them,
good and bad, that have changed them forever."
He believes that he felt a lot when he went to the military hospital and came across veteran with imputed limbs and listening to their stories.
"For me, the one that hits me a little was when we visited the military hospital. You're meeting people who are amputees and hearing about everything they've gone through. That puts life in perspective."
Other players from the San Diego ball club that have been involved in Nick Hundley, Will Venable, Nick Vincent, Logan Forsythe and Carlos Quentin. Coach Dave Roberts and former pitcher Trevor Hoffman along with manager Bud Black were also very much a part
of the San Diego Padres’ philanthropic works.
The ball club has recently contributed $30,000 to four different local charities along with participating in various events.
It is indeed a commendable act by these athletes and the Padres’ Organisation for the good work they have done on the social front. It is great to see that the players are giving back to the communities that have been supporting them in their professional
endeavours all the way through thick and thin.
