San Diego Padres announce completion of club’s sale – MLB News
With the announcement of the club’s sale, the San Diego Padres will now play under new ownership. On Wednesday, the Padres’ finally announced that Seidler/O'Malley group and Ron Fowler are the new owners of the club as they completed the deal with former majority owner John Moores for $800 million.
Along with Ron Fowler, Peter O'Malley, Kevin, Brian O'Malley, Peter and Tom Seidler are also part of the new ownership.
"We can look forward to fun times ahead," Kevin O'Malley said with confidence as among other owners, he will also be responsible for the Padres new future.
Later Peter Seidler said, "PETCO Park is wonderful -- great fan base, San Diego is a baseball town, has been for a long time, and we want to do what we can to help that. Major League Baseball itself is strong, but for us, it's more San Diego-specific This franchise has all the potential in the world. I think as shocking and overwhelming as all those words surrounding $800 million.”
Though all the stake holders will be responsible for all the combined duties to run a professional baseball franchise but Fowler, who also possesses large experience managing number of organisations in the past, will play upfront role in the Padres’ franchise.
After the Padres announcement that a new ownership party will be taking care of the club, all the owners attended the press conference.
During the press conference the new owners explained in the media that they will focus to achieve more wins in the near future. Regarding the players’ payroll and direct investment into the franchise, Fowler and other co-owners remained silent.
However, some source later speculated in the media that the Padres are now trying to bring attention to the players payrolls.
Currently, the Padres' players are getting handsome salaries but in recent times when they tried to sign some new players, the members within the organisation did differ on high salaries for new players which later cancelled those particular new signings as well.
