The San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Thursday, September 7 at Petco Park in San Diego.
Padres’ entire roster played brilliantly and won the game in style. From their pitchers to hitters, everyone contributed and landed a comprehensive victory.
Chris Denorfia added two runs and smashed two hits and maintained his slugging percentage at .448. He played well for the Padres and batted three times which was enough for his team to seal the victory with a narrow margin.
Logan Forsythe also performed well and added two runs and two hits on his .375 slugging percentage.
Along with two upfront main and experienced hitters, the Padres' veteran third baseman Chase Headley also contributed with two runs and two hits along with four RBIs on his consistent .488 slugging percentage. He batted well on his four at-bats as he also proved one of the winning factors for the Padres.
"That's a constant battle for a switch-hitter, Usually you don't feel good from both sides of the plate. It's usually one side and odds are you're going to face the side that you don't feel very good at -- usually. To have both swings going pretty well, it's kind of a rare thing," Headley said on his performance and his team’s overall contribution.
He added, "I wanted to do some damage with the pitch and kind of over swung, It was nice to be able to step out and kind of rethink my approach at the plate and tell myself to not over swing and go up and execute after that."
Along with batters, the San Diego side also showed their pitching prowess and won the game in style.
Andrew Cashner pitched five innings and received two runs and four hits. He also struck-out five while he maintained his ERA at 3.46.
Relief pitcher Anthony Bass pitched 1.2 innings and received one run and smashed one hit on his consistent 4.60 ERA.
Closer Joe Thatcher pitched 0.1 innings and received only one hit and run on his 3.54 ERA.
