San Diego Padres beat Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 at Petco Park - MLB Update

The San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 at Petco Park on Friday, May 3, 2013. The home team was all set to grab a comfortable victory before a late rally by the Diamondbacks at the top of the ninth almost swung the game in their favour.
The game was enjoyed by over 31000 fans and would have had a routine end until the Diamondbacks were able to score three runs at the top of the ninth and fell one run short to take the game forward. This improves the Padres overall record this season to
12-17.
Padres did well to come back from a 1-0 deficit in the second inning and then from a 3-2 deficit in the fifth innings.
The lead was taken in the fifth with the help of a two-run home-run from Yonder Alonso. The control was further strengthened by the Padres in the bottom of the eighth when they added another two runs to the scoreboard.
San Diego Padres’ manager Bud Black is quite happy with the way the bats are firing. He hopes that the good work can be sustained in the time to come.
"I've sensed us starting to swing the bats better the last few weeks," Black said. "[Let's] sustain it, keep it going."
Opening pitcher Jason Marquis improved his record to 3-2 for the season as he recorded a win. He had a decent day at the office as he gave away three runs in four hits during the six innings in which he pitched. Currently he has a relatively high ERA of
4.25 in six starts this season.
Bud Black expressed his satisfaction over the pitching by Jason who gave away five walks but also struck out the same number of batters.
"He battled and made some pitches," Black said. "I don't think it was any one pitch [that led to the walks]. When he had to make some pitches, he did."
Jason himself was happy that the fielding unit helped him out while he was pitching in the game.
“They helped me out with some double plays," Marquis said.
Chase Headley, the star third baseman for the Padres, gave a good show as he ran well between the bases and also scored a crucial double in the eighth inning that cemented the case for the Padres further in the game.
Overall it was a good game for the San Diego ballclub. However, they will certainly like to make sure that they pitch better and not let the opposition score runs when they are on top.
Apart from that, the Padres have shown some good skills with the bat and are looking to get back on track for the upcoming games.
