San Diego Padres beat Colorado Rockies 12-11 – MLB Recap
The San Diego Padres defeated the Colorado Rockies in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, September 16 at Petco Park in San Diego.
"That team is playing some fantastic baseball," Rockies' manager Jim Tracy said.
It was a well fought game from both sides but the Padres’ offence proved too good for the Rockies as they won with a narrow margin.
"Why not, We feel good about ourselves and where we are headed. The first guy I saw (after the hit) was Chase coming at me, I was like, 'Oh boy, here we go.' I was kind of backing away because I knew I was going to get it," Alonso said.
Padres’ pitchers and hitters played well and did not allow the Rockies' entire roster to take control of the game.
"I don't like roller coasters, Every now and then you have to take one. You have to take the ride, and we did. We ended up OK," Padres' manager Bud Black said.
Though the Padres' starting pitcher Andrew Werner gave too many runs but still he managed to outclass the Rockies' experienced hitters in his spell.
He pitched five solid innings and received five runs and seven hits. He received two homers but struck-out five batters on his 3.68 ERA.
Relief pitcher Cory Burns also played well for the Padres as he tossed 0.1 innings and received three runs and two hits on his 5.40 ERA.
Nick Vincent also stayed calm on the mound as he received only one run and one hit. He struck-out one Rockies’ hitter while his ERA also remained consistent at 3.09.
On the other hand, the Rockies' entire roster could not play well and lost with bitter humiliation.
Starter Alex White started the game for the Rockies as he received three runs and four hits on his 5.15 ERA.
"I made some bad choices along the way," Adam Ottavino said.
Along with starter, the Rockies' relief pitchers also played with low energy. Relief pitcher Adam Ottavino was hammered with seven runs and six hits on his blistering 4.38 ERA.
