San Diego Padres beat Colorado Rockies 6-5 in 12th innings at Coors Field – MLB news
San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 6-5 after a tense 12th innings finish on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Coors Field in Denver. The Padres were able to arrest a six game losing skid against the Colorado ballclub.
The Padres rode on their four-run fourth innings for most of the ballgame. This remained to be the most productive innings of the match.
The game had multiple fielding errors as Padres committed one while Rockies had no less than three.
Walt Weiss, the Rockies manager described the game as crazy and said that it is not possible to perform their best every time like they did in the previous game.
“Crazy game,” Weiss said. “The guys were locked in 24 hours ago. It's not going to be that way every night.”
The Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez duo were unable to connect well in the game as they went for a combined 0-for-11 against the Padres. Manager for the San Diego ballclub Bud Black thought that it was an important factor in the win for the Padres.
“That's hard to do, especially the way they're swinging it,” Black said.
Bud was extremely pleased by the end result of the game.
“All I know is liked how the game turned out,” said Black. “Loved how the game turned out.”
It was a close contest and the ballgame went pretty deep into the extra innings. The Padres could have won it without going into extra innings had it not been for Wilin Rosario’s two-run home-run in the eighth innings.
Centre fielder Yasmani Grandal was pleased that the team won despite of a play that was actually not completed by the Rockies and could have cost the game for the Padres.
“All that matters is that we got a run and we ended up winning,” Grandal said.
Incidentally, it was a Yamani Grandal’s groundout RBI that saw the visitors over the line in the 12th innings.
It was a good win for the Padres away from the home as they further close in on the .500 mark. They need to continue this upward surge in order to have a shot at the post-season.
