San Diego Padres beat Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3 as Eric Stults shines - MLB News
The San Diego Padres will be relieved after they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3 at Dodger Stadium. The Padres now have a 3-10 win-loss record, something that they will like to improve upon.
Neither of the teams had a perfect game and blew chances to score on more than one occasion. The star of the game was without a doubt Eric Stults who not only threw six quality innings but also homered for the first time at the Majors.
He gave away three runs in six innings. He was able to get out of jail on a couple of occasions and was able to stop the Dodgers from running away with the game. Eric at the moment has a 2-1 winning record in the season. He hit his homer in the second innings
with two outs.
The game was on an even keel until the top of the seventh when Padres were able to drive in two runs to take a 5-2 lead. They were able to further strengthen their hold at the top of the ninth when they scored another run and left the Dodgers with three
runs needed to keep the game alive. The relief pitchers made sure that it did not happen.
A double play in the bottom of the eighth made sure that the Dodgers could not get back in contention. With one out and two runners in scoring position, Luke Gregerson got out of the hole when runners were taken out at the first-base and home-plate.
San Diego ballclub desperately needed the win in order to keep their spirits high. They started the season with high hopes of repeating the performance from the end of the previous season but so far have not been able to live up to those expectations.
They will certainly be hoping to have ace hitter Chase Headley back into the Major League setup. Chase is currently playing in the Minors as he recovers from an injury he picked during Spring Training. He was instrumental in team’s resurgence in the latter
half of the 2012 season.
It will be interesting to see how the Padres perform once Chase Headley is back. One would be hoping that he is the catalyst the Padres need to get back on track.
